Join us for our Spring Ethics Professional Development session, "Telehealth and Ethics Now that We are In-Person",  featuring Dr. Dan Florell, Ph.D., NCSP,  from 9:00 - 12:00, April 30th.

Telehealth and Ethics Now that We are In-Person

Session description: During the pandemic, everyone became virtual school psychologists. This session will focus on answering many of the common questions that arose when everyone made the rapid transition to telehealth. This starts with issues like how to set up teleconferencing platforms and the use apps to complement mental health services. Common ethical dilemmas along with privacy and access issues will be addressed. The session will move onto more advanced content including conducting assessment, counseling, and supervision within a remote context.

Learner Objectives

  •  Participants will be knowledgeable of best practices in use of videoconference platforms.
  • Participants identify various smartphone apps that can be applied to assist school psychologists in providing therapeutic services.
  • Participants will become aware of how diversity and multicultural issues should be considered when utilizing telehealth.
  • Participants will be able to identify common issues common legal and ethical pitfalls when using telehealth.

Brief Bio: Dr. Dan Florell is a Professor at Eastern Kentucky University and he runs a private practice. He trained school psychologists in a graduate program for 20 years. Dr. Florell has a Ph.D. in School Psychology from Illinois State University. He is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) and a licensed psychologist. Dr. Florell is actively involved in NASP and is the NASP Historian and Online Communication Coordinator. His column Just a Click Away appears in the Communique and he writes a bi-weekly column on children and adolescent issues in the local newspaper. His main research focus is on cyberbullying, technology, telehealth, professional issues, and the history of school psychology
